Reasons for Insomnia

Are you trying to discover the medical reasons for insomnia?  Do you have an insomnia problem?  The food you eat affects the quality of sleep you get and how easily you fall asleep. Other foods can help your brain calm down, while other stimulates it. The problem in sleeping may be caused by the food you eat. Some food contains an amino acid known as tryptophan, this product can induce sleep. Foods with tryptophan can make you feel sleepy and sleep better all throughout the night.

There is another component of food that works best in your sleep, the carbohydrates. Therefore, for bedtime snacks and dinner you need to eat something, which is high in complex carbohydrates with some tryptophan containing protein to relax your brain with some calcium too. A combination of sugar and carbohydrate can stimulate you and will give you a hard time to sleep.

Here are some foods that contain high amounts of sleep provoking tryptophan:

•    Peanuts and hazelnuts
•    Dairy foods
•    Whole grains
•    Sesame seeds and hummus
•    Beans
•    Soy foods

If you eat lighter the better, and it will help you relax. If you want to have a good sleep avoid high fat meals and large servings since it makes your digestive system work too hard and keeps you awake. It is actually best to go to bed comfortably not with full stomach. It will make you feel asleep faster but your sleep is likely to be disrupted through the night.

Insomnia is a disorder where the person experience difficulty in having sleep. It could be temporary or will last from a day to month or chronic insomnia that lasts longer than a month. Chronic insomnia can cause several mental and physical problems if left untreated.  There are some illnesses that can be the reason for insomnia and can be one of several causes of insomnia.  The include the following:

•    You were not able to concentrate on work because of fatigue.
•    You suffer from accidents or injuries because of sleepiness and fatigue during the day.
•    Depression.
•    It may cause emotional problems such as feeling sad, depressed and irritated at all times.
•    Memory loss

You know that you are suffering from insomnia if you have the following conditions:

•    Difficulty falling asleep at night, even after turning and tossing for more than an hour the patient would not be able to sleep.
•    Walking up frequently at night and unable to fall back to sleep.
•    Waking up earlier than usual in the morning
•    Having the feeling of being tired instead of refreshed on getting up in the morning.

The main causes of insomnia are as follows:

•    Stress – This is the common cause of insomnia. If a person has a high level of stress you will have difficulty in falling asleep.

•    Emotional or mental problems can cause insomnia too. If the person is suffering from anxiety, depression or any other type of problem you might experience difficulty in falling asleep too.

•    Eating a lot or watching TV a lot before going to sleep can cause you to suffer from insomnia. Having irregular sleep patterns will also result in insomnia.

There are several factors that cause insomnia. The reasons mentioned above are only some of the common cause of insomnia.  Having a healthy lifestyle is the best way to combat insomnia.
